always040: Back/Shoulder soreness

Hey guys! I am a 1L. As such, I spend most of the day sitting in (non-ergonomic) chairs, or slightly hunched over, reading the pile books on the table in front of me, or slugging said pile of books around the law school. When I get stressed, my neck and shoulders (specifically where they meet) get tense, hot, and generally angry at me. So the stress of law school PLUS all this hunched over activity is needless to say doing a number on me. I have scheduled a massage next Saturday, but I am miserable in the mean time. I have been drinking a lot of water and putting heat on it at night when I can, but it doesn't seem to be helping much. Any suggestions?

Aside from carrying only the books that are absolutely necessary, I'd say just tough it out and deal with it however you can to get through that day. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it's just one of those rites of passage into law school. And trust me, the books get even heavier next year. I'm working on a theory that law school only really exists for three purposes: (1) to see if we can parrot out the information we learned in first year two years later, (2) to see if we can survive all the physical and mental taxation, and (3) to torture unassuming Type A personalities....

Sorry about the hurt, I know it sucks, but you'll eventually pinch a nerve or callous your shoulders or something that should ease it a bit!
